Can you grow on social media without music? (halal marketing, answered)
Yes, you can grow on social media without music. Instagram ranks content based on watch time, saves, shares, and comments, not on whether a trending sound is attached to it. Removing music doesn’t cap your reach, it never did.
By the end of this blog, you’ll know what to use instead of music, what a hook is + how to write one, what your metrics are really telling you, and how to plan a week of content without starting from zero every time. InshaAllah! 🙂
the fear behind this question
Before the algorithm talk, let’s sit with the real fear underneath this question:
If I remove music, will I lose reach.
If I remove music, will I lose income.
That fear is real, and it’s the exact fear Allah addresses directly in the Qur’an.
“And whoever fears Allah, He will make for him a way out, and will provide for him from where he does not expect.” (Surah At-Talaq, 65:2-3)
& the Prophet Muhammad ï·º said
“If you were to rely upon Allah with the reliance due to Him, He would provide for you just as He provides for the birds. They go out in the morning with empty stomachs and return full.” (Sunan al-Tirmidhi, 2344)
The birds still leave the nest, still fly, still search.
Rizq meets them mid effort, while they’re already trying.
That’s the exact model here too.
You won’t just remove music from your posts, you still need to do the real work & put sincere efforts
why music was never the real reason behind growth
The algorithm checks whether someone:
– stopped scrolling
– watched to the end
– saved the post
– or sent it to a friend,
BEFORE it decides to push your content further
None of those four signals require a trending sound.
Music became the default because it’s the easiest thing to do.
Easy and effective are two different things.
A trending audio can carry a weak post for a few days and get you some reach,
but can it build trust or make someone remember your brand?
If your growth plan or “strategy” is finding a trending sound and saying “bismillah” before hitting post so it gets some reach…
…*i’m speechless, idek what to say*
The content itself has to do the job 🙂
things to use instead of music
If you’re just starting out, pick two of these, get comfortable, then build from there
- Voiceover > of trending audio
Your own voice builds trust faster than a sound a thousand other pages already used this week, and it gives the algorithm a clear watch time signal
• Record 10 to 15 seconds saying one true thing out loud
• Talk the way you’d explain it to a friend mid-conversation
• Example opener: “i wonder why NOBODY is talking about [X]” - Real silence or ambient sound in your b-roll.
• Calm content is rare right now, which makes it stand out in a busy feed
• Film 5 seconds of your workspace or process
• Keep the real ambient sound (unless your siblings are fighting in the bg ðŸ˜) - Nasheed or dua audio, used with intention.
• This works when it fits the mood of the content, chosen for what the words say
• Save it for genuinely reflective content, a founder moment, a testimonial
• Pick the track for its meaning first, its sound second - Sound effects instead of music, for demos and tutorials.
• A camera shutter click on a before and after, a soft whoosh when text appears,
that’s enough to say “pay attention here.”
• Add one or two SFX at the exact moments you want someone’s eyes to stop, a reveal, a swipe, a key point landing - Qur’an recitation
This is different from nasheed. Please keep in mind, do not use Qur’anic ayahs as a background sound to keep people hooked. It needs to be listened with proper attention and adab, that’s the haqq of Qur’an.
• Use a short, clearly sourced recitation that reflects your real emotion. i.e shukr, abundance etc
• Save it for genuinely reflective moments
• When in doubt, leave it out 🙂
give the post a job before you pick a format
Decide what the post is doing before you decide how it looks.
A carousel with no job is just a bunch of slides nobody cares about
• Awareness posts introduce a belief, a myth, or a hot take, this article is doing that with the music myth
• Trust posts show your actual process, a real result, a client win, proof that you know what you’re doing
• Sale posts ask for something specific, a comment, a DM, a signup with a proof of WHY they should listen to you
Pick the job first.
The format is how you deliver it.
understand your positioning
Positioning is the one thing about you a stranger could repeat back to a friend after seeing a single post.
Amal Social’s positioning is “halal marketing is the standard, not the exception. You can get better results (and barakah) in your business without going against the values of Islam”
That’s a stance, and it’s obvious in almost everything we post
gut check: after your last three posts, could a stranger explain what you stand for in one sentence? That’s the fix to make before hooks or formats. Positioning deserves its own full breakdown, and we’ll cover it in more depth in a future post 🙂
know exactly who the post is talking to
Every post should speak to one of two lanes.
• To someone who wants to learn this herself: “here’s exactly how to do this yourself, step by step”
• To someone who wants to hire it out: “here’s what it looks like when someone else does X for you”
Who your target audience is? and what is it that you’re offering?
Once you know which lane a post is for, the copy and messaging gets a lot easier to write.
That’s the real fix for running out of content ideas.
what a hook actually is, and few ways to write one
A hook is the one line, visual or moment that decides whether someone keeps watching or keeps scrolling.
That’s the entire job it has to do.
Without a trending beat drop carrying it for you, the hook comes from your own script or copy.
Here are different hook types that work for muslim brands, creators and founders all the time:
(with examples from this exact blog, ofc)
• The question hook: Open with a question your audience is already asking themselves, something specific, like “is it even possible to grow without music as a Muslim creator?”
• The bold claim hook: State something that sounds slightly untrue until you explain it. “Music was never why your reels were working” makes someone stop to find out if you’re serious.

what your metrics are actually telling you
A quick cheat sheet worth saving:
• Comments = interest, someone is engaging with you in real time
• Saves = value, they want to come back to this later
• Shares = trust, they’re vouching for you to their own circle
• Stories convert, use them for offers, launches, and direct CTAs
• Carousels = nurture, use them for teaching and multi-slide value
• Reels = reach, use them for discovery and new eyes
Match your format to the job you actually need done.
a simple weekly system so you’re not starting from zero
Use this three bucket rotation across your week instead of guessing every day.
• Awareness posts, two times a week
• Trust posts, two times a week
• Sale posts, one to two times a week, always with a specific comment-triggered CTA
Plan one week at a time using this rotation, and you already know which job the next post needs to do before you sit down to write it.
Btw, we’re HUGE believers that every post should do the trust part. But as a beginner, this is the funnel you need to follow. Once you get your audience’s pain points, their desires and what they actually expect from you, you can weave trust into every post 🙂
proof this actually works
We did this for one of the muslim owned apparel brands we’ve worked with.

No music, or chasing trends. It took us 2 years to get it right through strategy, positioning and testing the right format,
and the content hit 565K views organically under 5,000 followers.
Almost none of that came from their own audience, 97% non-follower reach
– the number that tells you the content did the work (allhamdullilah)
SEE THIS POST
We also took a brand from a new idea in the market to 45,000 followers in 30 days. No music or ads. The founder had a soliddd personal brand tho
check the case study HERE
The levers were the same things above: a clear positioning, content built around specific audience lanes, and formats matched to the post’s actual job, done consistently (3x times a day 💀)
We’ve worked with 60+ clients globally, across Islamic brands, bookstores, charities, modest fashion, coaches, and product businesses. The accounts that commit to halal growth fully are the ones building audiences that trust them long term.
Zero haram tactics used, still growing. Alhamdulillah.
Everything above is what we teach inside our coaching, compressed into one sitting. The full program adds the templates, the audit on your actual content, and real feedback as you build the system.
If the content and messaging side is where you’re stuck, knowing what to say and how to say it so it actually holds attention, that’s exactly what we work on inside our social media coaching.
If it’s the visual side, making a muted, no-music post actually stop the scroll, that’s our Scroll-to-Sale coaching track, where we focus on design built to convert.

what to do next
Pick one post you already have scheduled this week.
Decide which bucket it belongs to, awareness, trust, or sales
pick one hook style, and swap in one format from the few given above.
Watch your saves and shares (the numbers that tell the truth)
